Exploring the art of shaping wood with Luca Chiti – Graphic and Interior Designer
"Craftsmanship is an art: it requires time, dedication, and respect for raw materials. For me, working with wood means listening to the material, respecting its nature, and giving it new life."

Luca Chiti works in the world of graphic design but also has a unique passion: carving wooden ladles and spoons. A one-of-a-kind passion, born from his love for this material and for outdoor life. Read his interview to get to know Luca and his passion for wood carving.
How did your passion for wood carving begin?
My passion for wood carving began by collecting small sticks in the woods. Since I live in a house surrounded by nature, I often go into the forest with my dog Lucky. At the beginning every time I came back home, I would bring some sticks with me. Out of pure curiosity, I started carving them. Over time, I realized I could shape those simple pieces of wood into real objects. That was my first approach to this world.

How did you get into making ladles and spoons?
From simply carving the small sticks I found in the woods, I began drawing inspiration from rounded, soft shapes that gradually turned into ladles and spoons. That’s how I started creating these objects, discovering that in Anglo-Saxon countries there’s an entire world of lovers.

What was your first experience with woodworking?
My first experience with woodworking was when I first stepped into the carpentry workshop at the high school I attended, more than 40 years ago now. It was an almost unconscious introduction to this craft, but over time it stayed with me in some way.
What do you feel when creating these objects?
The main feeling I enjoy when making these objects is the slowness of the process. There’s no set time for this kind of work: only the natural rhythm of the material I’m working with. I know that’s hard to imagine, especially today when we live in such a fast-paced world. Another aspect I love is the hands-on nature of the activity—the sounds, the wood shavings that are created.

What do you try to bring from your passion into your work?
I always try to bring the themes, flavors, and feelings I experience while working with wood into my daily job, even though it’s not always easy. Sure, my job is creative, but it definitely doesn’t have the same slow pace I find when working with wood. Creative work needs its own time to be completed.
What do you think a garment needs to be worn?
Just like in woodcraft, creating a garment requires passion and attention to detail. Personally, I look for simplicity, comfort, and the quality of the materials used. A perfect example is the SUPERIOR WOOL LOUNGEWEAR HOODIE, made from organic cotton and virgin wool. It is comfortable, warm, and versatile.
